When it trades, in New York time
The program turns these times into your broker's time by itself.
- 17:00 to 18:00: the futures market closes every day. The program holds no trade then.
- Strategy 1: 18:30 to 08:55 and 10:55 to 16:55.
- Strategy 2: opens trades after the 09:30 New York open, until 11:00, and closes them by 15:55.
Two kinds of results: backtested and live
The backtest shows 30 months in the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester. The live test shows the program trading now, and every trade is published.

What you often see, and what we show instead
| Often seen | Here |
|---|---|
| Only the profit | The profit, and next to it the drawdown, the losing months and the longest losing streak |
| Results without fees | Real broker fees taken out of every trade |
| "90% winning trades" | 41% winning trades: the wins are bigger than the losses, and we explain why that works |
| Backtest and live mixed in one chart | Backtest and live test always shown apart |
| Profit testimonials | Every live trade published instead |
| A product that disappears when it stops working | If the live test does not match the backtest, we say so and keep the record online |
What it does, and what it never does
It does
- Trade two strategies with fixed rules: one follows the trend, one trades the breakout after the New York open.
- Put a stop loss and a take profit on every trade.
- Keep only one trade open at a time.
- Trade only at set hours, and close before the daily market break.
- Stop for the day after a profit target or after three winning trades.
- Check your free margin before every trade, and tell you in the journal when it skips one.
- Look after its own trades only.
It never
- Uses a grid, martingale or adds to losing trades.
- Raises the trade size after a loss.
- Moves a stop loss further away.
- Touches your manual trades or trades from other robots.
- Sends your trades or account data anywhere. The website edition only checks its licence.
- Promises a profit. It loses on many days and in some months.
Is it for you?
Yes, if
- You use MetaTrader 5 with a broker that has Nasdaq-100 futures (MNQ, NQ) or a Nasdaq-100 CFD.
- You want a robot with fixed rules and accept that most trades are small losses and a few are big wins.
- You can keep MetaTrader 5 running on a VPS or on a computer that stays on.
- You want to test it first: free in the Strategy Tester, or free for 14 days on a demo account.
No, if
- You need the same profit every month. There were losing months and a streak of 15 losing trades.
- Your account cannot handle a drawdown of a few thousand dollars per MNQ contract.
- You would switch it off after a few losses. The results come from taking every trade.
- Your prop firm does not allow trading robots.
What it trades
| Symbol | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|
| MNQ | Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures (CME) | Backtested on 11 contracts in a row; live test on a real account |
| NQ | E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures, 10 times bigger than MNQ | Same rules as MNQ |
| Nasdaq-100 CFD | NAS100, US100, USTEC and other names, depending on the broker | Same rules; the program finds the symbol and the size per point by itself |

Who is behind it
Opening Bell Algo is made by Silviu Bere, an independent developer of trading programs for MetaTrader 5. The program is the result of a long series of tests on Nasdaq-100 futures, where most ideas were thrown away. How it was built.
Check before you buy
Our guide: how to check a trading robot's backtest, with seven questions to ask any seller, us included.
What you need to run it
For 1 MNQ contract at AMP. Our own estimate.
- $15
- a month for futures market data in MetaTrader 5
- $10 to $15
- a month for a VPS, or your own computer that stays on
- ~$100
- a month in broker fees, already taken out of our results
- $3,100
- account balance: the largest backtest drawdown plus $500
With a Nasdaq-100 CFD you can trade a much smaller size than 1 MNQ contract, so a smaller account is enough. The full budget for MNQ, NQ and CFDs
Before you buy
- Read the risks.
